Two Hungarian hikers missing in the Slovenian Alps

Update: One hiker has been rescued and the other has sadly been found dead.

According to reports from Slovenian public radio cited by MTI, search efforts were called off on Monday because of heavy snowfall, strong winds, and avalanche threats, along with near-zero visibility.

The hikers became lost on Sunday while in the Kamnik saddle, situated at an altitude of 1,931 meters. One of the hikers sustained a broken leg. A rescue team of 40 mountain rescuers was involved in the search efforts before the operation was temporarily suspended.

Awaiting Improved Conditions

Jernej Lanisek, the leader of the rescue team, stated that they will resume searching as soon as weather conditions permit. A rescue helicopter is also on standby for deployment when visibility improves.

The Kamnik Alps, located directly along the Austrian border, span approximately 900 square kilometers. Named after the city of Kamnik, the mountain range boasts 28 peaks exceeding 2,000 meters in height, with the highest being Grintovec at 2,558 meters.
