Hungarian hiker found dead in Slovenia
A Hungarian hiker who went missing in the Kamnik Alps of Slovenia has been found dead, as confirmed by the Slovenian Mountain Rescue Association (GRZS) on Thursday.
The search and rescue team reported that the hiker was located in a steep area of the Kotiska Gorge, unfortunately without any signs of life. Efforts are currently underway to transport the body from the valley.
Background of the Incident
Authorities were alerted on Sunday afternoon that two Hungarian nationals, a man and a woman, were stranded in the Kamnik Alps and that one of them had sustained injuries. Immediate rescue operations were initiated; however, the mission faced multiple interruptions due to severe weather conditions, including strong winds and snowfall.
The female hiker was rescued on Monday without serious injuries, though she was suffering from hypothermia. The search for her injured male companion continued for several days but had to be suspended several times due to snowdrifts and avalanche hazards.
Final Rescue Efforts
On Thursday morning, a helicopter was deployed again, along with specialized rescuers heading towards the Kotiska Gorge. Unfortunately, they could only recover the man's body.
