Hungarian-South Korean skater Kim Min-seok wins world cup

Hungarian naturalized speed skater Kim Min-seok clinched a victory in the World Cup series held in Nagaon, Japan.

The athlete, who became a Hungarian citizen in July, triumphed in the B division of the 1000 meters with a time of 1:09.39. Following this impressive performance, he will compete in the A division at the next event. This successful outing was followed by another win in the 1500 meters on Friday.

Background and Achievements

Kim Min-seok, a 25-year-old Olympian, has returned to competition after a lengthy absence due to a one-and-a-half-year ban for driving under the influence in his home country, South Korea, which also led to his being excluded from the national team for three years.

Previously, Kim won a bronze medal in the 1500 meters at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang and repeated this achievement at the Beijing Olympics two years ago. Additionally, he holds a silver medal from the team pursuit event in Pyeongchang.
