Wizz Air bird strike in Tenerife - delayed 16 hours

On January 1, 2025, a Wizz Air flight from Budapest to Tenerife encountered a bird strike during landing. While the plane landed safely, maintenance checks were required before it could return.

Due to a technical issue, Wizz Air's return flight W62424 was delayed and rescheduled to depart from Tenerife at 12:00 PM on January 2, 2025, local time. Approximately 180 passengers, affected by the delay, sought accommodation options on social media to find places to stay overnight.

Wizz Air communicated via email to affected passengers, offering a meal voucher worth €30 and indicating that expenses incurred for accommodation would be reimbursed upon receipt submission. The airline expressed regret for the inconvenience, emphasizing that passenger and crew safety remains their top priority.
