Péter Magyar criticises media in leaked recording

Recent audio recordings featuring Hungarian politician Péter Magyar have surfaced, once again igniting controversy.

The recordings, made public on November 18, were secretly recorded by his former girlfriend, Evelin Vogel. They appear to show Magyar expressing strong disdain for various media outlets, including ATV, Index, and 444.

Content of the Recordings

In the first recording, Magyar is heard expressing frustration, stating, "I've sent ATV to hell, I'm done with them." He boasts about communicating directly with his audience as he gains popularity on platforms like YouTube and Facebook, declaring, "I couldn't care less about the media." Vogel, in a contrasting tone, recalls advice supposedly given by Magyar's grandmother about maintaining gentleness in politics. However, Magyar rebuffs this sentiment, arguing against being gentle in a cutthroat political environment.

The second recording depicts Magyar discussing the potential exclusion of ATV journalists from an event. Despite being advised against this move, he stubbornly insists, "I'll throw them into the Danube." This behavior echoes a previous incident when he abruptly left a live interview on ATV, showcasing his contentious relationship with the media.

Ongoing Developments

This media controversy follows an extraordinary press conference held by Magyar where he alleged extensive wiretapping operations against him and his political party, the Tisza Party. He accused Vogel of collaborating with the ruling Fidesz party. Following his claims, an investigation regarding alleged extortion has been initiated, although Vogel has dismissed his accusations as unfounded.

The release of these recordings continues a trend that began last week, with previous audios depicting Magyar criticizing attendees at a summer protest and insulting fellow party members.
