Paid barrier at Fisherman's Bastion removed after 2 days
On January 3, 2025, the mayor of the I. District ordered the removal of a cordon that had been set up just a few days prior at Fisherman's Bastion in Buda Castle.
According to Mayor László Böröcz, feedback from the public indicated that the barrier was not suitable from an aesthetic viewpoint.
The mayor noted that the cordon, which was originally put in place for a 30-day trial period during the December assembly, would not be reinstated after its removal. He emphasized the need to increase tourism revenue in the area, suggesting that the focus will shift to improving services rather than imposing restrictions.
Background of the Cordon
The black cordon was introduced on January 1, restricting access to the lower section of Fisherman's Bastion, where visitors needed to pay a fee of 1500 HUF to enjoy views of the Danube. This initiative was approved by the local assembly on December 12, but the cost for access had been raised from previous charges. Many expressed concern that the barrier adversely impacted the historical monument's appearance.
