Lőrinc Mészáros becomes richest person in Hungary
Mészáros Lőrinc has seen his estimated wealth double over the past year, reaching 1241.8 billion HUF according to the latest Forbes billionaires list. His fortune is equivalent to 1.65% of Hungary's 2023 GDP
His financial status is largely influenced by his company, Opus Global, which experienced a 107% increase compared to the previous year. Despite some market fluctuations that previously reduced his wealth by 50 billion HUF, this year has showcased significant growth, particularly in the private sector of his business.
Rankings and Other Billionaires
With this substantial increase, Mészáros has become the richest Hungarian for the first time, surpassing the one trillion HUF mark. Following him in second place is Sándor Csányi with an estimated wealth of 684.8 billion HUF, and Zsolt Felcsuti in third at 487.4 billion HUF. The list also includes notable figures such as Tibor Veres, György Gattyán, and others, with the wealth of the fifty richest Hungarians totaling around 8.5 trillion HUF.
New Entries and Notable Changes
Tiborcz István, the son-in-law of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, has also made headlines by doubling his wealth to reach 151.5 billion HUF, securing the 15th position on the list. Furthermore, Erik Keszthelyi appears for the first time with an estimated wealth of 102.9 billion HUF, mainly due to his stakes in joint ventures with Mészáros.
The Forbes list has also reinstated the names of the owners of Hell Energy Drinks after a lengthy legal battle, marking their return to the list at number 39 with an estimated wealth of 71.9 billion HUF each.
