Foodora fined by Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH)

The Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) has imposed a fine of over 35 million HUF on Foodora for misleading consumers through its promotional offers.

Nature of the Violation

In a promotional campaign during the fall of 2023, Foodora promised customers a discount of 2,000 HUF and free delivery. However, the company failed to clarify that these offers applied only to orders exceeding 6,000 HUF. Additionally, the GVH determined that Foodora delayed the administrative process regarding the case, leading to an extra procedural fine of 20 million HUF.

Regulatory Oversight

The GVH has emphasized its commitment to monitoring the commercial practices of food delivery companies. The authority has conducted sectoral investigations in the past to ensure fair competition. They highlighted the importance of clearly communicating the conditions tied to promotional offers to consumers.
