Digital SZÉP card to be launched
Starting September 1, 2025, the SZÉP card will be available in a digital format, eliminating the necessity for the traditional plastic card.
This update comes as part of a broader initiative aimed at improving digital payment options for cardholders.
Government Announcement
The advent of the digital card was previously hinted at by Márton Nagy, the Minister of Economic Development, who announced a 14+2 point tourism package in October. A recent government decision has modified the regulations governing the issuance and use of the Széchenyi Recreation Card. As a result, financial service providers will need to offer a device that allows cardholders to make payments from a designated payment account for SZÉP card benefits. Some issuers, like K&H, have already introduced a digital version.
New Feature: Active Hungarians Fund
Another significant change set to take effect in 2025 is the introduction of a new fund called "Active Hungarians" on all SZÉP cards. Employers will be able to transfer 10,000 HUF monthly to this fund, raising the annual payment limit for SZÉP cards from 450,000 HUF to 570,000 HUF.
